Who Am I? - Grace McBlain

Who Am I?

My name is Grace McBlain. I am a sophomore studying Early Childhood Education with the Dual for Special Education. I am also on the swim team here at Bloom, which has given me the opportunity to make so many great friends.

When I was little, I loved going to school and being with my teachers and classmates. Growing up as the youngest, I always wanted to help the younger grades as I viewed them as my little siblings. As I got older, I knew I had a connection with kids that some people do not. This inspired me to become a teacher and help other students grow and find their passion too. My sister is a new Kindergarten teacher, and I have been helping with her classroom, which has excited me for the future. I cannot wait to see what the future holds and to help others with their own education.

Being able to be on the swim team at Bloom has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. The team has been able to teach me many life lessons even if they do not specifically affect swimming. Being on the team has helped my work ethic, put me on a schedule, and even helped me go outside my bubble socially. My coaches are so helpful, and they are great mentors for in and out of the pool. The team has such a positive aspect that I cannot be thankful enough. They really are my home away from home.

At home I am very close with my family and friends, as they mean a lot to me. I grew up with a large family as my dad is one of seven and Mom one of three. Family means so much because those are the people who raised me and know me the best. My favorite thing to do with my family is simply hangout and enjoy each other’s presence. Along with my family, about 2 years ago we added to our family with a dog which we named Rory. Immediately when we got him, I spent most of my time with him out of everyone in my family. Maybe he likes me for me, or maybe because I give him the leftovers off my plate when nobody else does. Going to college and leaving my dog is very sad but I am grateful to be able to have someone to miss.

  2. Like your Dad, I also come from a family of 7! It seems like swim team has been a very great experience for you and I hope it continues to be. Your dog is adorable, and I'm sure being away from him is hard. I've had my dog Kingsley for about 4 years now, and I hate whenever I even have to leave him for a few days. But I'm also sure his reaction whenever you come home is very sweet!

  3. Hi Grace! I am also an education major, but instead of early, I am studying secondary ed. I am also really enjoying it so far. How long have you been swimming for. I have been cheering for as long as I can remember and could not imagine college without that, probably similar to your feelings about the swim team.

  4. I'm sure you'll have great reunions with Rory when you visit home. Not giving scraps from the table is the only good dog habit we've managed with our dogs. They have plenty of other bad habits like getting me up around 5 am for their morning meal!

  5. Hi Grace! I admire your strong passion and desire to become a teacher. I think its a wonderful profession especially since the younger kids look up to the big kids and teachers for guidance. I adore your dog Rory and how you two have a great bond together. Hopefully you can see him again when you home and have good reunions especially if he is looking for those scraps from the plate. Best wishes!
